I've been thinking of getting a ring which contains seven or eight coloured gems with the gems representing each colour in the rainbow. I'm not sure if it's possible, nor do I know how expensive it will be, but I've collected a list of gems below:
Colour | Gem | Type | Gem Month |
---|---|---|---|
Red | Ruby* | Precious | July |
Orange | Topaz | Semi-Precious | November |
Yellow | Diamond (Amber?) | Precious | April |
Green | Emerald | Precious | May |
Blue-Green | Aquamarine** | Semi-Precious | March |
Blue | Turquoise | Semi-Precious | December |
Indigo | Sapphire* | Precious | September |
Violet | Amethyst | Semi-Precious | February |
* Ruby and Sapphire are the same mineral.
** Aquamarine has the same structure as Emerald.
I may drop Turquoise from the list because it doesn't really belong with the rest of the gems. Amber is a possibility, but I'll look for a yellow Diamond.
I still do not know if I'll ever want to front the cash for such an investment, although if I turn to synthetics, it would make the ring much cheaper. I've been mulling around with this idea for quite a number of years now, so waiting a little longer won't hurt.
I've recently been given a link to a site that sells rainbow gem rings. Unfortunately, this one does not have the gems I'm looking for. However, in my quest for a rainbow sapphire ring, I came across a number of pages. I've picked out one. These two are from the second site: Here and here. Too bad these cost an arm and a leg!
I'm still looking for a place to get good synthetic sapphires. Uncut synthetic gems are so cheap! Some information on how to make synthetic gems can be found here.
