These postulates were formulated by Jari L. James who has been in Critical
Care Medicine for more than 25 years. Having spent a lot of time on
night call, her first comment was:
Try finding your phone in the middle of the night.
(Yeesh, I can relate! =)
- James' Postulates:
- When you turn out the light, all the furniture moves.
- The best way to find a missing sharp object is to walk around the
house in the dark with bare feet.
- The possibility of receiving exactly what you ask for at any
given moment is inversely related to how much you really need it.
- You may be in trouble if the weight of the patient's medical
records equals the weight of the patient.
- You may be in trouble if you have more tubes running into the
patient than you have naturally occurring openings in that body.
