MJNL and I spent most of the day cleaning out the condo. I had done most of the laundry on Friday and washed out the tub after hockey, but there was still a lot of organizing to do. I ended up going through some of my financial files and shredded a lot of old documents. I checked with a few websites and they state that you do not need to keep stuff like mutual fund statements for more than a year (after you reconcile them). I had ten years of records. Heck, I still had all of my pay stubs.
I had already removed a lot of old bills from my filing cabinet. Enough to fill several bags with shredded paper. This time I had a similar amount of output. Funny enough, it did not seem like I made much of a dent in the amount of paper I was still keeping. My goal is to cut the number of files I have in half. Or at least enough so that I can fit everything into one box.
Next up, my cash and credit card receipts. That is more than twenty years worth!
