I took the afternoon off so the plan was for us to go to the Royal Ontario Museum since MJO gave me his city pass.
I ended up getting out of the office late due to a number of factors, but I was able to make it home and pick up the car just in time to pick up MJNL. After getting stuck in traffic (again), we took public transit to the museum, where we wandered around for a few hours. I had not been to the Royal Ontario Museum in years, so everything there seemed quite new to me. My new found (well, it has been more than several years) interest in ancient history has helped with understanding the displays more on the Egyptian, Greco-Roman, or even European exhibits.
What we were also able to see was a star sapphire, namely the Black Star Sapphire of Queensland. It is quite a remarkable gem. Our tour guide, made a comment about not expecting sapphires to be black, and I went into a speech explaining.. well, sapphires. I probably should not have bothered, the explanation was on one of the display walls. Ah well.
After the visit to the museum, we went out for dumplings (and we had a lot of them) before heading back home.
