[1:45 PM EDT - Fries or chips?]

DP was telling me about how cood chips were in England. I've never actually tried them myself, but I know someone who might've. Anyone want to tell me the (subjective) differences between chips there and fries here? *finds an onion ring in poutine* Hmm.. *eats it anyway*

Objectively: Chips are thicker (11/2-2X) wider (2-3X) and more variable in length. Due to this increased cross-section, chips have more of a "chunk of potato" appearance than fries.

Subjectively: They taste more like potato - must be a volume-to-surface area thing. Low volume means you just have crispy things that taste like "deep fried." I think of them as being closer to a proper food than fries.
