I brought a pair of shoes back to a store to get a smaller size as the shoes were just a bit too large for my feet. When I asked a sales representative to see if I could get another pair, she told me that I could not do it today. I was a little surprised, but she insisted that no exchanges or refunds could be made until the 28th.
On the way out I checked the receipt, and sure enough there was a note (in French) on the bottom of the receipt indicating that no refunds or exchanges could be made on the 26th or 27th. Doh!

It seems as if my feed script seems to cause some of the information not to show sometimes. It's quite strange actually. I thought that it was a timing issue, but I guess I'll have to take a closer look?

I went to the mall to exchange my shoes, and only when I took a closer inspection of the receipt that came with the gift did I realize that the shoes were bought in Quebec! The name of the malls were the same so I did not really clue in to why the receipt was in French. In any case, I got a pair one size smaller and they fit quite nicely, so I took them away with me. Apparently there was a minor issue with the receipt. The taxes were different, which made sense because Quebec taxes on tax (I believe), but it seems as if owed five cents!
I then realized why this was the case: The QST is 7.5% which is less than the Ontario PST of 8%. However, because the QST is applied to the total including the 7% GST, the actual tax applied was 8.025%.
However, since the GST is now at 6%, the QST has an effective rate of 7.95%, which is now less than the Ontario PST. So the Quebec government lost 0.075% of their sales tax rate since July and will lose another 0.075% next July.
People of Quebec rejoice!

I got home and had a quick bite before heading out to the high school reunion. The roads were good, but I was pretty sure that I did not want to ride out of town. Traffic was moving at a slower pace than usual, so I was going faster than the flow. I did not pay too much heed to other cars since I was in no rush and I was not going all that fast.
With traffic being light, I did end up in my own bubble of road for a time, and during that time I saw a pair of headlights closing in on me from behind. I had cruise control on so I paid no attention, until the car crossed to my right and passed: It was a police cruiser. No wonder why the other cars were going slow. They cop must have been in a hurry though because it blew by me.
I arrived at the party late, as usual. We had a pretty good turnout actually. I was one of the last people to arrive, and everybody was already very well settled. Although I had technically organized the party, I really did not do any of the logistics, getting a place, or food, or whatever, so I didn't think my presence was required from the get go.
In any case, we had most of the regulars show up, but I think it was a little smaller than last year because of the lack of viable e-mail addresses I actually had on hand. I'll have to remedy it for next year.
