I opened up my phone this morning to take a look at the battery again. Everything seemed fine, except at the top of the battery where there is an indentation with some sort of metal coating at the bottom. I noticed that part of the metal coating had chipped away, where it was contacting a hook to keep it in place, so I shifted the battery so that the hook would contact the remaining area which was coated in metal and presto! The phone turned on!
