I had to drop a large package off at the FedEx depot after work. Most of the FedEx locations were closed by the time I left, but fortunately one allows next day deliveries to be collected until seven-thirty. We do have a FedEx drop off point in the building itself, but it seems to only have stuff for small packages, and the container didn't seem to be designed to handle a package of our size, so I was left with transporting the box over to the depot.
As I was leaving work, I noticed that the FedEx truck was just about ready to leave the building after making it's pickup. I caught up to it at the lights and played on a hunch which relied on two assumptions:
There were a number of routes that I had in my mind that could make it to the depot in a reasonable amount of time, but I wasn't sure which one was the optimal one since I wasn't sure what the traffic patterns were and the conditions at the time. With those two assumptions above, my hunch was that it would take the quickest route to the depot. I put my hypothesis to the test.
I followed the truck all the way to the depot, taking one of the better routes that was in my head. I was thinking that there may have been a better one, but we still made very good time and I could have been wrong. I wonder if I freaked out the truck driver, since I was on his tail all the way down and didn't bother passing..
