Well, the lunch challenge has been postponed yet again. I didn't mention it until now because of the possibility that it would be canceled for one reason or another, and it seems as if my hunch paid off!
Anyway, on the way back from picking up lunch, I saw a SUV lose control behind me as it turned onto the main street and then ride over the snow embankment on the side of the road. I watched and saw that it was stuck there so I stopped the car and threw the hazard lights on. I backed up a bit, got out of the car, and went to see if the driver was alright.
She seemed fine, although the car was definitely stuck. Watching as she tried backing up, all four of her wheels spun ineffectively as the car barely shuddered. Unfortunately, I didn't have any salt available, and I don't carry any carpet on me. However, I still had the carpeted floor mats which came with the car. I threw them in the trunk when I installed the rubber mats because I didn't have any better place to put them. So I brought my car up, popped the trunk, and extracted the two mats. I slid one behind each of the rear wheels of the SUV (I couldn't access the front tires) and told the lady to try to back up again. After a couple of tries, the mats got caught under the car and she was able to pull herself off the embankment.
She was thanking me profusely from her window as I went over to pick up my (now wet and muddy) mats and deposited them back into the trunk. Then I went back on my way. Ahh, doesn't that just give you that warm fuzzy feeling down in the cockles of your heart?
